That encrypted password, known as a handshake, can then be cracked by a naughty knucklehead in your neighborhood. Why does it matter? Pretty much the only reason someone would send a “deauth” packet is to kick a device off of your network, and capture the encrypted wifi password when the device reconnects. When it detects a deauthentication packet being sent over wifi (to any device within proximity), the led changes from solid green to flashing red and plays a neat-o pirate theme tune. To elaborate, it runs on an esp8266 microcontroller with built in led and speaker. In short, it lets you know when there is malicious wireless activity within your proximity. If you’ve never seen one of these, it’s a deauth detector.
